Jazz and Swing

Jazz has an unbroken history of about 150 years. MusicArtsVienna provides numerous forms of music in this field: from New Orleans Jazz to Dixieland, from Swing to Bebop and Cool Jazz. In the most diverse formations, we are able offer you the most popular jazz directions:
From Austrian Jazz Professor Dr. Michael Kahr at the piano, to Dixieland with „Jazz vom Fass“ to the young, talented and charismatic band

Sugar Daisy’s Hot Club: MusicArtsVienna manages the band that performs New Orleans jazz from the 1920s -30s.

Prof. Dr. Michael Kahr – Jazz Professor – is currently writing a book on the history of jazz in Graz:

„I’m increasingly interested in the inter-connectivity of music, be it with the composition or the arrangements.“ He is especially fascinated with multiple Grammy award winner Clare Fischer, who has arranged for Prince, Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney, among others. „Jazz has something cross bordering for me, in genre terms as well as territorially. In jazz, boundaries simply do not exist,“ Michael Kahr explains.
He performs alone, with double bass, and/or vocals and in quartets.

Austrian Brass Band: The Austrian Brass Band of the University of Arts in Graz consists of about 30 young, aspiring, energetic, professional musicians and strives for new horizons of Brass music, in Austria and Europe. What is already wide-spread as a growing music genre in Great Britain, the Benelux-countries or Sweden, is still a little-known secret in Austria, at least for the moment: the Brass Band! The „Austrian Brass Band” plays a demanding repertoire consisting of symphonic adaptations and original compositions, as well as entertaining programme music and highlights from musicals or film soundtracks. Of top priority are the professional performance and the intense joy of making music.

Vienna Brass Connection: Seventeen brass musicians and three percussionists from Austria have come together in Vienna, in order to form an ensemble together: the Vienna Brass Connection. In fact, all musicians are members of diverse top orchestras (Viennese Philharmonics, Vienna State Opera, Vienna Volksoper, ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, Tonkünstler Orchestra Lower Austria, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, Graz Philharmonic Orchestra and Bavaria Munich Radio Orchestra). This does not prevent them, n addition to their everyday duties, from creating an orchestra with the mission of bringing goose-bump sensations to their audience.

MusicArtsVienna has access to several Jazz Quartets, which we would be happy to organise for you in the style of your choice. There are countless ways of making excellent use of them, for example at side events, Christmas parties, concerts, gallery openings or birthday celebrations.
